Social Support Service for Elderly

St Mark’s Coptic Social Support Groups Service for elderly, the service is funded by Commonwealth Home Support Programme “CHSP” and auspices by St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, Arncliffe.
The service offers weekly social support groups and transportation on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for elderly, and their carers of Coptic background who live in St.George area and Sutherland Shire.

Social Support Groups

We offer weekly social support groups for elderly and their carers of Coptic background who speak mainly the Arabic language or other languages and live in the St. George area and Sutherland Shire.

Transportation

Transportation

We offer transportation attached to the social support service. Buses pick up the participants from their address to attend morning liturgy and social day and drop them off back to their homes.

A small contribution is collected on the day of the service.

Activities

We provide a variety of activities to enhance the participants social, and spiritual life style including:
Attending morning liturgies
Centre based activities at the church hall
Bible study
Social outings to parks, clubs, etc. Information sessions
Celebrating Coptic events such as Christmas, Easter, etc
Shopping trips

We are adapting wellness and reablement approaches to improve function, independence and quality of life for elderly people from Coptic background.
