1. Weekly Spiritual Message
Spiritual message of the week by Father Jonathan:
Fasting in JOY
Proper fasting is to be done in Joy. It is an important element in any Christian fasting.
Just before lent starts, a lady in the congregation came to me joyfully asking ‘What is my canon this year for lent, Abouna?’. Many come to me asking the same question but the special thing about this lady is her JOY.
I tried to picture the journey her mind and soul undertook to discover why she is joyful. I came up with the following:
She is joyful because:
1. She shares with Jesus His fasting and His retreat on the mountain. How sweet is that!
2. She enjoys the church services more during lent. The church, for some reason, is more holy.
3. She partially cut herself off from the world, its destructive news and stories; because of this she feels happier and more holy.
4. She spends more time than usual in prayers and thinking of God, bringing her peace.
5. Yes, she feels hungry for most of the days, but for some reason this promotes a spirit of humility.
6. She prepares herself for the day of Salvation. As You, Jesus, are suffering instead of me on the cross on Good Friday, I have only shared (very slightly) in this suffering during lent. I desire to practically show that I am responsible for Your cross, so I share the pain with You.
7. She has experienced how joyful the Easter celebration is when she has fasted with the church; so she is looking forward to that heavenly joy.
Fast and see which of the above experiences works for you too. I pray you experience all of them with the fasting church.
2. The Second Mile Service
This service is for people who need help, either by being visited, prayed with, and for the ad-hoc shopping and doctor appointments. In addition, it is for those who need company for their chemotherapy / radiotherapy sessions.
If you need this service or know of someone who needs it, please speak to one of the Church’s Fathers or call 0401 535 133.
Please pray for this service to Glorify the Lord’s name.
3. Parents Meet and Greet event for Sunday School Year 1 and Year 2.
Join us this Sunday the 13th of March for our parents meet and greet event for the Sunday School Years 1 and 2, at 10:45 – 12pm @ covered area behind the bookshop.

4. Lent Bible Study
The Week 3 Bible Study (Arabic only) is attached.
5. St Wanas Disaster Relief Fund
The St Wanas Kids Charity is collecting donations to support our Australian brothers and sisters. Please see details below in poster on how to donate.

9. Bereavement Announcement: 40th Day Remembrance for beloved Raafat Basta
The 40th Day remembrance for Mr. Raafat Basta, Father of Nardine Basta and Father-in-law of Roger Stephan, will be held at St Mark’s Church on Saturday 19th March in the Arabic Mass at 8:30am – 10am, followed by a gathering in the 5&2 Lounge.
May God repose his soul in the Paradise of Joy and give peace and comfort to family and friends.

أنما الصوم فليكن بفرح
ما احلى فى نظر الرب ان يقدم الانسان صومه بفرح و رضا..فالصوم لابد ان يكون بفرح
قبل بداية هذا الصوم المقدس جائتنى سيدة فاضلة فى الكنيسة تسألنى بتهلل "الصوم الكبير هيبتدى بعد كام يوم يا ابونا..ايه بقى التدريب الروحى للصوم لهذه السنة؟"
الحقيقة ان كل الاباء الكهنة يوجه اليهم مثل هذا السؤال من عشرات المعترفين كل عام فى بداية الصوم.. و لكن ليس دائما مثل هذه السيدة.. فقد سألت بتهلل..
فكرت ان اتخيل رحلة الى اعماق فكر هذه السيدة لكى اكتشف سر الفرح بالصوم.. فوجدت الاتى..
أصوم بفرح لانى:
1. اشارك ربى يسوع صيامه و خلوته على الجبل..فما ابهجى بمشاركته.
2. الكنيسة لها طعم خاص جدا فى الصوم الكبير..احبه و انتظره كل سنة.
3. أبتعد عن اخبار و امور العالم بشكل كبير فأشعر بقداسة بيتى و نقاوة داخلية.
4. أعطى وقت اكثر لقراءة الانجيل و الكتب الروحية و الصلاة فى وقت الصوم..فاشعر اننى فى حضرة المسيح.
5. اعترف بأنى اشعر بالجوع و الضعف الجسدى فى كثير من الاوقات..و لكنى اتمتع بشعور عجيب لا يوصف من الاتضاع و المسكنة الروحية.
6. أشعر بأنى اجهز نفسى ليوم الجمعة العظيمة..فبينما يتألم المسيح على الصليب بدلا عنى.. أفرح بأنى شاركته فى القليل جدا من اهمال الجسد و بعض الالم بصيامى بجدية..ما جمل مشاركة الام المسيح..
7. أختبرت من عام لعام فرح عظيم فى ليلة عيد القيامة عندما أقدم صوما بنسك و جدية..فلا اريد ان اخسر هذا الفرح الروحى المجيد ابدا طوال حياتى.
لهذا انا اصوم بفرح..
أحبائى فلنصم أذا بفرح مع الكنييسة لكى ما نختبر احد او كل هذه المشاعر التى ذاقتها هذة السيدة التقية..

هذه الخدمة أيضاً تقدم للمحتاجين لوجود شخص معهم اثناء العلاج الكيميائي للسرطان.
