1.Weekly Spiritual Message
Spiritual message of the week by Father Elijah:
The Great Lent is a marvellous opportunity for spiritual revival and transformation. Sometimes however the change that occurs during the fast is our diet alone. St John Chrysostom gives us a powerful message about this: “For what does it profit if we abstain from fish and fowl and yet bite and devour our brothers and sisters? The evil speaker eats the flesh of his brother and bites the body of his neighbor.”
As we abstain from meat and fish, we should also abstain from slander, gossip, lying, flattery and other sins of the tongue. It is not only what goes into our mouth that we should be concerned with during the fast, but also what comes out (Matt 15:11). One way to thing about this is to ask “Is it syami (fasting)?” of everything I say and do during the fast, and not just what I eat.

Let us pray for each other that this Lent our fast is acceptable before the Lord.

10. Updated Bereavement Notice for Laurice Tanios
The family wishes to advise that the funeral prayers for Laurice Tanios will be on Tuesday 19th March 2024 at 10:30am at St Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Church Arncliffe followed by the burial at Rookwood General Cemetery, and Third Day prayers and light refreshments at St Mark’s church.

١.الرسالة الروحية الأسبوعية
يقدم رسالة هذا الأسبوع قدس ابونا إيلايجا:
إن الصوم الكبير هو فرصة رائعة للنهضة والتغير الروحي. ولكن أحياناً يكون التغيير لنظامنا الغذائي فقط. يعطينا القديس يوحنا ذهبي الفم رسالة قوية عن هذا الأمر فيقول: "ماذا ننتفع إذا امتنعنا عن تناول السمك ولكن نعض وننهش أخوتنا؟ المتحدث بالشر يأكل لحم أخيه وينهش في جاره".
ونحن نمتنع عن تناول اللحم والسمك، ينبغي أن نمتنع عن مسك السيرة والنميمة والكذب والنفاق وغيره من خطايا اللسان. علينا أن نحرص خلال الصوم ليس فقط على ما يدخل فمنا ولكن ما يخرج منه أيضاً (متى 15:11). طريقة يمكنك أن تفكر بها هي أن تسأل نفسك " هل هذا صيامي" على كل ما أقوله وأفعله خلال الصوم وليس فقط على ما اتناوله.
