St James the Bishop of Jerusalem
Claim to fame: James of Jerusalem is referred to in the New Testament as the brother of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
He was for many years the leader of the Christian congregation in Jerusalem, and is generally supposed to be the author of the Epistle of James, although the Epistle itself does not state this explicitly.
Quote: “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” (James 1:2-4)
Fun fact: There are 3 different James’ mentioned in the Gospels. This particular James was not one of the 12 disciples of Jesus.
