Contemplation (verse 57-62)
[verses 57-62] St. Augustine comments on the first man “… the Lord was sure that he was only asking what was for himself, and not what was for the Lord Jesus (Phil. 2:21) for He says (Matt. 7:21) “Not everyone that saith unto Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven”. … he was full of hypocrisy and wiles… This is why He said to him (Luke 9:58) “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hath nowhere to lay His head”, which means He has no place in your faith. For in your heart you will find foxes that have holes, since you are full of cunningness. In your heart, too, the birds of the air have nets because they are sowing high in pride.

Personal Question
Do I strive with God to make my heart pure? Do I put God first in my life, or is my priority/foundation my family, my friends, my success, my fun, my desire to be looked up to for my “spirituality”, or anything else?
Bible Knowledge Question
Which of Jesus’ disciples wanted fire to be rained on the village that refused to welcome Jesus?
Prayer
Lord, show me how to put You first. Transform my heart, help me to love You, truly and sincerely. Let my heart be Your dwelling place, help me to even _want_ that, to know You like I know my closest friends, to want to be around You, to want to spend time with You. Show me this mystery, please. Father, Shepherd, Saviour, Beloved.. guide me.
