Contemplation (verses 25-37)
St. Ambrosios: Beware lest you get stripped off from the garment of faith, for this was the violent knock out …
St. Augustine: ‘Samaritan’ means ‘guard’ He knows He is our guard, for (Ps.121:4) “He who keeps Israel will neither slumber not sleep”. Also (Ps. 127:1) “Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain”. Our guard is our Creator.
The Scholar Oreganus: What are these injuries that have stricken man? These are the disasters of sin… “He brought him to an inn, and took care of him”. The inn is the church that welcomes all people, and does not reject supporting anyone, since Christ calls everyone (Matt.11:28) “Come to Me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest”.
Personal Question
How can I guard against losing my faith in God?
Bible Knowledge Question
Jesus appointed seventy disciples to do what? And in what manner?
Prayer
Lord, don’t let me rely on myself. Help me turn to You, guard me. Help me spend time with You so I recognise when You speak to me, help me follow as You lead me. When I am stripped of my faith, when I fall into sin, help me come to You, and come to Your church to be healed. Amen.
