Spiritual Message from Fr Elijah:
As we approach the Advent Fast, I would like to share with you some advice from HH Pope Shenouda III. He suggests that during this fast we focus on the virtue of restraint:
1. Focus on the virtue of restraint for “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” Proverbs 16:32
2. Restrain the tongue for In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.” Proverbs 10:19
3. Do not say all that comes to mind and do not say all that you hear (it may not be the truth)
4. Fortify your mind and watch out for the thoughts of anger, revenge, envy, hatred, pride or condemnation “A garden enclosed Is my sister, my spouse, A spring shut up, A fountain sealed.” Song of Solomon 4:12
5. Restrain your senses
6. Restrain your will. If you do not yet love to do good, then during the fast try to force yourself.
7. Do not let your freedom impose on the rights and freedom of others. Let your freedom end where the freedom of others begins
