Spiritual message of the week by Father Augustinos:
Joy for the World
"For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy" Luke 1:44.
Last Monday the Early 5am to 7am mass was very quiet, at the end of the mass one of the deacons said to me, "Abouna do you know why there wasn’t many people at mass this morning"? I said “no why?”, he said, "Because they were all watching the world cup final at 2am this morning."
I could imagine the scene of all who were watching the game at 2am, sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting and hoping that the side they follow would score a goal. When their team scores, they jump to their feet in great joy and cheer loudly, clapping, singing and even shedding some tears. 😃🥳😭 I think I was more joyful praying for them in the Mass🙏
2000 years ago a profoundly important event happened, where there was a great leaping of joy of a 6month old foetus for an embryo of about of 1 week. This was the leaping of St John for joy in the womb of St Elizabeth during the visit of St Mary who was expecting the birth of her Son Jesus. This has previously been compared to the Ark that contains the presence of God, a presence that is a source of consolation, of total joy or extreme reverence. St John, in fact, leaps in Elizabeth’s womb, just as David danced and leap for joy before the Ark. It reminds us of the scene in 2 Samuel verse 6 when David dances and leaps excitedly as the Ark of the Covenant is brought into Jerusalem. In both cases, the Word of God is physically present. Before John, the Word is Jesus in the womb of St Mary. Before David, the Word is in the form of the Ten Commandments within the Ark. For them, being in the presence of the Lord was not something they took lightly. They were not afraid or saddened, they were filled with a great joy so immense and so uplifting that the only way they could express themselves was by leaping and bowing for joy.
In all the Biblical events where there was an encounter with our Lord Jesus, there was great joy that fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus, everyone went home joyful. Faith in our lord Jesus, who is the Word of God incarnate, is not something that should bring us down but fills us with the greatest joy. How much do we leap or bow for joy when we feel that we are in the presence of God, in fact if we believe in the providence of God then our joy will be every minute of our lives. How much joy do we feel when we are in the Liturgy in the presence of the glory of God? How much joy that our Lord Jesus brings to world knowing that His incarnation was for me personally to give me salvation, redemption, forgiveness and eternal life. While I am alive on earth, he gives me Himself, His body, His Blood, His personal divine love, His unlimited compassion and His mercy beyond human comprehension that will surely make me leap and bow in joy within my heart.
May we always strive to discover how to live a life full of the true joy in the Lord, to be in His presence and to know that there is no other joy in the world that can fulfil our heart other than our Lord Jesus Christ. We need to find this joy now before days become more difficult.
2. Kiahk Praises
We are holding 2 x Kiahk Services on Saturdays:
1. Early Saturday 2am till 6am: midnight praise (7&4) followed by liturgy from 6am till 8am.
2. Saturday nights 7&4 Tasbeha: Vespers praise Saturday 4pm till 6pm. Vespers raising of incense followed by midnight praise (7&4): 6pm till 11pm followed by a holy liturgy late Saturday night liturgy from 11pm to after midnight.
3. Extra Mass during Nativity Fast
We will pray a late mass at 1 -3pm each Friday during the Nativity Fast.
The church wishes you a blessed Nativity fast, full of holiness and a spiritual revival that we really need.
4. A new Church Opportunity
We are delighted to share some good news with you. South Hurstville Uniting Church came to market, and we considered this to be a rare and exciting opportunity for the growth of the Church. Thanks to God, St Mark’s Church was successful in purchasing it! The vision is to extend the Church’s services utilising the buildings and facilities and to establish a new English Coptic Orthodox parish to witness among the local community. The settlement will take place in mid-February just in time for Lent 2023. We ask for your prayers that it may be a source of light to current and future generations. If you would like to support this initiative in any way, please contact any of the fathers. Attached is a flyer with some pictures and details of the Church.
5. Lions Lounge – every Thursday 7:30pm
Weekly spiritual meeting in an informal relaxed environment, also suitable for non-Copts.
6. Kenya Mission 2023 Trip
St Marks Coptic church Sydney is pleased to announce a Kenya Mission 2023 trip for youth and servants from 18th July to 1st August 2023.
The trips will be focused on daily spirituality, service in villages, orphanages, prisons, churches, daily masses, church and community building, medical campaigns and the needs of the poor and needy.

فرح للعالم
" فهوذا حين صار صوت سلامك في أذني ارتكض الجنين بابتهاج في بطني" لوقا ١:٤٤
يوم الإثنين الماضي، كان القداس المبكر من ٥ – ٧ صباحاً هادئًا للغاية، وفي نهاية القداس قال لي أحد الشمامسة، "أبونا، هل تعرف لماذا لم يكن هناك الكثير من الناس في قداس هذا الصباح"؟ فقلت "لا، لماذا؟"، قال، "لأنهم كانوا يشاهدون نهائي كأس العالم الساعة الثانية صباحًا."
يمكنني تخيل مشهد كل من كانوا يشاهدون المباراة في الثانية صباحًا، جالسين على حافة مقاعدهم، ينتظرون ويأملون أن يسجل الجانب الذي يتبعونه هدفًا. عندما يسجل فريقهم، يقفزون على أقدامهم بفرح كبير ويهتفون بصوت عالٍ، ويصفقون ويغنون بل ويذرفون بعض الدموع 😃🥳😭 أعتقد أنني كنت أكثر بهجة بالصلاة من أجلهم في القداس 🙏
حدث من ٢٠٠٠ عام حدث هام جداً، حيث كان هناك قفزة من الفرح كبيرة من جنين يبلغ من العمر ٦ أشهر لجنين يبلغ حوالي أسبوع واحد. كانت هذه قفزة القديس يوحنا فرحًا في بطن القديسة أليصابات أثناء زيارة القديسة مريم التي كانت تنتظر ولادة ابنها يسوع. سبق وتم مقارنة هذا الموقف بتابوت العهد الذي يحتوي على حضور الله، حضور مصدر التعزية والفرح الكامل أو التوقير الشديد. في الواقع، يقفز القديس يوحنا في رحم أليصابات، تمامًا كما رقص داود وقفز فرحًا أمام تابوت العهد. إنه يذكرنا بالمشهد في صموئيل الثاني الآية ٦ عندما كان داود يرقص ويقفز بحماس بسبب وصول تابوت العهد إلى أورشليم. في كلتا الحالتين، كلمة الله حاضرة جسديًا. أمام يوحنا، الكلمة هي يسوع في بطن القديسة مريم. أمام داود، كانت الكلمة على شكل الوصايا العشر داخل تابوت العهد، فبالنسبة لهما، لم يكن التواجد في حضرة الرب أمرًا يستخفان به. لم يكونا خائفين أو حزنانين، بل امتلئا بفرح عظيم هائل ومنهض معنوياً للغاية لدرجة أن الطريقة الوحيدة التي يمكنهما بها التعبير عن أنفسهما هي القفز والانحناء فرحين.
في جميع الأحداث الكتابية حيث كان هناك لقاء مع ربنا يسوع المسيح، كان هناك فرح عظيم يملأ قلوب وحياة كل من يتقابل معه، ذهب الجميع إلى منازلهم فرحين. إن الإيمان بربنا يسوع المسيح، الذي هو كلمة الله المتجسد، ليس شيئًا يجب أن يحبطنا بل يملأنا بأعظم فرح. إلى أي مدى نقفز أو نركع من الفرح عندما نشعر أننا في حضرة الله، في الواقع إذا كنا نؤمن بعناية الله، فإن فرحنا سيكون في كل دقيقة من حياتنا. ما مقدار الفرح الذي نشعر به عندما نكون في القداس في حضرة مجد الله؟ ما مقدار الفرح الذي يجلبه ربنا يسوع للعالم مع العلم أن تجسده كان لي انا شخصيًا ليمنحني الخلاص والفداء والمغفرة والحياة الأبدية. بينما أنا على قيد الحياة على الأرض، يعطيني نفسه وجسده ودمه وحبه الإلهي الشخصي وعطفه اللامحدود ورحمته التي تفوق الإدراك البشري والتي ستجعلني بالتأكيد أقفز وأنحني بفرح في قلبي.
نرجو أن نسعى دائمًا لاكتشاف كيف نعيش حياة مليئة بالفرح الحقيقي في الرب، وأن نكون في حضرته ونعلم أنه لا يوجد فرح آخر في العالم يمكن أن يملأ قلوبنا غير ربنا يسوع المسيح. نحتاج أن نجد هذا الفرح الآن قبل أن تصير الأيام أصعب.

مساء السبت تسبحة ٧ و٤: عشية يوم السبت من ٤ – ٦ مساءً رفع بخور ، ثم تسبحة نصف الليل (٧و٤) من ٦ – ١١ مساءً، ثم قداس من ١١ مساءً وحتى منتصف الليل
٣.قداس إضافي خلال صوم الميلاد
سنصلي قداس متأخر من ١ – ٣ ظهراً كل جمعة خلال صوم الميلاد
تتمنى لكم الكنيسة صوم ميلاد مملوء بالبركة والقداسة والنهضة الروحية التي نحتاجها جميعاً
٤.فرصة الكنيسة الجديدة
يسعدنا أن نشارككم بعض الأخبار السارة. تم عرض كنيسة "ساوث هيرستفيل يونايتينج" للبيع، واعتبرنا هذه فرصة نادرة ورائعة لنمو الكنيسة. بنعمة ربنا، نجحت كنيسة القديس مار مرقس في شرائها!
تتمثل الرؤية في توسيع خدمات الكنيسة باستخدام المباني والمرافق وإنشاء كنيسة إنجليزية جديدة للأقباط الأرثوذكس لتشهد للسيد المسيح بين المجتمع المحلي. ستتم التسوية في منتصف شهر فبراير ونحن نستعد للصوم الكبير لعام ٢٠٢٣. نطلب صلواتكم لتكون الكنيسة مصدر نور للأجيال الحالية والمستقبلية.
